Counselling — The healing power of talk.

Life happens and it happens to all of us, at times in pleasant ways and other times not so good. The unpleasant life experiences may sometimes seem like a passing phase which we may try and endure. Other times such experiences feel endless, plunging us in that deep well of despair, that ever so vast ocean which engulfs our very frail world.

All of us at some point in our lives, and it’s really a question of when not if, will experience emotional struggles as this is part of being very human. At times, this may be due to the present circumstances. At other times, it may be caused by events from the past and often a remote distant past.

When experiencing such life changing feelings, we need support to help us get through the difficulties.

At times, people nearest and dearest can provide this support as positive relationships may offer just that. Often however, what if those very people may be too near and intwined with our difficulties, unable to provide unbiased objectivity or in some situations they may indeed be the source of our anguish, knowingly or otherwise and that relationship is not so healing.

These adverse relationships may then define us, pointing to and describing a recognizable shape in a cloud formation after which we are unable to see anything other than that shape, in that dark cloud. Positive relationships may still offer the needed emotional support in these unhappy situations, except such relationships may be found elsewhere, away from the not so helpful connections we may be familiar with or indeed may have grown up in to.

A safe, confidential space.

The counselling therapeutic relationship with a counsellor who you may choose to work with is indeed one such example, capable of offering a positive reparative experience. Counselling offers a safe confidential space allowing each of us to explore the innermost depths of our feelings without judgement, through the counsellor's empathy and compassion.

Such a powerful environment can allow us to see clearly the hidden shapes and patterns of our lives with clarity and authenticity, unobscured by the otherwise, familiar and ever-present cloud shapes, thereby offering a different, more satisfying way of being.

Not all of us in need of emotional support are able to find such trusting relationships with all the counsellors out there and I may not always be the right person for you. I do believe however that I can offer that experience for many people.

If you are still curious then l invite you to learn more About Me, my practice and perhaps reach out for an initial consultation, in case what I may offer is something you may be seeking.
